DETAILS RELEASED REGARDING STANDOFF AT KINGSTON MOTEL; ENDS PEACEFULLY WITH TWO IN CUSTODY

A hours-long standoff at a local motel ended safely on Tuesday after law enforcement officers took two wanted suspects into custody following a breach by a tactical unit.

Officers and detectives with the Kingston Police Department arrived at the Super 8 Motel on North Kentucky Street on July 28 to investigate a multi-county counterfeiting operation and serve active Knox County felony warrants on two individuals.

The situation escalated rapidly when officers knocked on the door of Room 114. A male voice inside threatened that he had a firearm, would shoot the female subject inside, and then turn the gun on himself.

Responding officers quickly secured the perimeter while negotiators with Kingston Police and the Roane County Sheriff’s Office established contact with the couple via cell phone. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and Hostage Negotiation teams were called in to assist with the high-risk situation.

After several hours of continuous negotiations, Knox County SWAT breached the motel room door and successfully took both suspects into custody without further incident.

The suspects were identified as Amanda Caudle, 47, and Jason Teague, 49. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being processed.

Investigators remained at the scene to execute search warrants on the room and an associated vehicle, continuing their probe into a broader counterfeiting scheme spanning multiple counties. Kingston Police credited the peaceful resolution to seamless multi-agency coordination involving local law enforcement, emergency medical services, the fire department, state wildlife officers, and the district attorney’s office.

Authorities noted that additional details will be made public as the investigation continues.
