Fentress County Executive Jimmy Johnson is officially stepping down, marking the end of a pivotal chapter in local government leadership.

The announcement drew a warm tribute from neighboring Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster, who reflected on Johnson’s dedicated tenure and the strong bond forged among regional leaders over the years.

“Jimmy has served the people of Fentress County with honor, integrity, and a genuine love for his community,” Foster shared in a recent public statement. “He’s left his county better than he found it, and that’s about the highest compliment you can give someone in public service.”

Foster highlighted the close camaraderie among area county executives, noting how their core group of leaders relied on one another while navigating unprecedented regional challenges, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Foster also paid tribute to their late colleague, former Van Buren County Mayor Randy O’Dell, when reflecting on the tight-knit group of public servants.

While yesterday marked the official conclusion of Johnson’s term as County Executive, regional leaders expect him to remain an active and familiar face in the community.

“Jennifer and I wish Jimmy and his family nothing but the best in retirement,” Foster added. “Congratulations, my friend. Thank you for your service, your leadership, and most of all, your friendship. You will be missed around the county mayors’ table.”
