An Anderson County jury has convicted Jason Robert Dockery on all charges, including first-degree murder, following a rigorous two-week trial presided over by Judge Ryan Spitzer.

The case stems from September 12, 2023, when Anderson County deputies responding to Moore’s Gap Road discovered Shysti Mayberry dead from a gunshot wound. The gruesome discovery triggered an intensive homicide investigation and an urgent search for Mayberry’s missing infant child.

The search quickly escalated into a multi-state manhunt, culminating two days later with Dockery’s arrest in Lee County, Virginia, and the safe recovery of the infant.

An Anderson County Grand Jury subsequently indicted Dockery on multiple felony counts, which included:

• First-degree murder

• First-degree murder in the perpetration of a kidnapping

• Especially aggravated kidnapping

• Firearm possession charges and reckless endangerment

Prosecutors are pursuing a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole during the upcoming sentencing phase.

District Attorney General Dave Clark praised the extensive cooperation of numerous law enforcement agencies—including the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, TBI, and the Lee County, Virginia Sheriff’s Department—for their instrumental roles in the multi-agency manhunt, the successful Amber Alert response, and securing justice for the victim’s family.
