The multi-day manhunt for a McMinn County shooting suspect came to a peaceful end Tuesday morning when the fugitive turned himself in to local authorities.

Kobe Jackson, who had been sought by the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office following a Friday shooting on County Road 435, surrendered to officers at 11:30 a.m. at a relative’s home in Etowah.

According to Sheriff Joe Guy, the peaceful resolution was largely driven by law enforcement outreach. Lt. Jason Bautsch—who previously served as Jackson’s school resource officer—maintained a dialogue with Jackson and his family to encourage a surrender, while Lt. Bill Cherry coordinated local searches and tip follow-ups.

“Lt. Bautsch knows Jackson from his time as school resource officer. That relationship was critical in working out this surrender,” Sheriff Guy stated.

Ongoing Investigation and Charges

• The Victim: Remains hospitalized in critical condition at a Chattanooga medical facility.

• The Charges: Jackson faces formal charges of Attempted First Degree Murder and Aggravated Robbery.

• Bond: Set at $700,000.
