HEAT HOLDS ON AS STORM CHANCES RETURN

Regional Forecast — Cumberland Plateau & Tennessee Valley

Dangerous heat remains the main concern today, with a Heat Advisory in effect and heat index values around 105 to 106. Thunderstorms develop this afternoon and evening, and a few could become strong to severe with damaging winds, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall. Hot weather continues through Thursday before rain chances increase late in the week.

Monday: Mostly sunny and hot with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing during the afternoon. Highs in the mid to upper 90s with heat index values around 105 to 106. Heat Advisory in effect. Chance of rain 20 to 50 percent. There is a Marginal Risk, level 1 of 5, for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds and frequent lightning are the main severe weather threats. Locally heavy rainfall could also lead to localized flooding.

Monday Night: Partly to mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the lower 70s. Chance of rain 30 to 40 percent.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny and hot with an isolated morning shower possible. Highs in the lower to mid 90s. Heat index values could reach around 102. Chance of rain up to 20 percent.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Wednesday: Sunny and hot. Highs in the lower to mid 90s.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear to partly cloudy with a chance of showers developing late in some areas. Lows in the lower 70s. Chance of rain up to 30 percent.

Thursday: Partly to mostly sunny and hot with showers and thunderstorms becoming more likely, especially during the afternoon. Highs in the lower to upper 90s with heat index values potentially reaching around 105. Chance of rain up to 70 percent.

Thursday Night: Partly to mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Lows around 70 to the upper 60s. Chance of rain 40 percent.

Friday: Partly sunny with scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s to around 90. Chance of rain 50 percent.
