FAIRFIELD GLADE TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO METH ARREST AFTER K-9 UNIT ALERTS ON VEHICLE
A routine traffic stop for an improperly displayed license plate on Peavine Road resulted in the arrest of a local man on drug charges early Sunday evening, August 2, 2026.
According to incident reports from the Fairfield Glade Police Department and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Officer Amber McHargue pulled over a gray Honda Accord near the 5000 block of Peavine Road after noticing its license plate was held on by only a single bolt and nearly hanging off.
Upon contacting the driver and passenger Hunter James Gavin Johnson, 21, officers noted anxious behavior and attempts to rush the stop. After the driver declined a request to search the vehicle, a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit was called to the scene.
Deputy Atkinson deployed K-9 Kilo for an open-air sniff, resulting in a positive alert on the passenger-side door. During the subsequent probable cause search, authorities recovered wadded-up black duct tape containing a crystal-like substance wedged between the passenger seat and the center console. The substance field-tested positive for amphetamines.
Additionally, officers discovered a gold metal container inside Johnson’s bag holding multi-colored pressed powder pills with cross markings, which also tested positive for amphetamines.
The driver was cited for improper display of a license plate and released at the scene. Johnson was taken into custody, transported to the Cumberland County Jail, and booked on charges of manufacturing, delivering, selling, or possessing methamphetamine. His bond was set at $3,000.
