KNOXVILLE 13-YEAR-OLD CHARGED WITH VOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER IN YOUNGER BROTHER’S DEATH
A 13-year-old Knoxville boy has been taken into custody and charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with the death of his 12-year-old brother earlier this week.
Police officers initially responded to a residence in the 1500 block of Cecil Avenue just before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, following reports of the 12-year-old’s death. Because the cause of death was not immediately clear, the victim was transported to the Regional Forensic Center for examination.
A preliminary autopsy revealed the victim died from internal injuries resulting from blunt force trauma.
Following a continued investigation by homicide detectives, authorities determined the boy had been assaulted by his older brother over the weekend. The 13-year-old suspect, whose identity is being withheld due to his juvenile status, was taken into custody Thursday night.
The investigation remains ongoing.
