Federal health agencies report that a massive multistate Cyclospora outbreak linked to iceberg lettuce has now reached 11,458 cases across 20 states, including 495 hospitalizations and two deaths.

The outbreak, which originated from shredded iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico and processed by Taylor Farms de Mexico, prompted a major recall on July 17. While three new states—Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas—have been added to the tally following retrospective interviews, experts emphasize that the newly reported numbers reflect past infections rather than current risks.

Food safety experts and the FDA confirm that all recalled product has been removed from shelves and restaurants.

Health officials state that shoppers do not need to avoid iceberg lettuce entirely, as current produce on the market is considered safe. However, consumers are advised to thoroughly sanitize any surfaces that may have come into contact with recalled products.
