TBI RELEASES DETAILS ON FUGITIVE ARRESTED IN KENTUCKY FOR PICKETT COUNTY MURDER

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released new details today on the arrest of Jesse Wayne Phillips. Phillips, featured on the TBI’s Most Wanted list, was recently captured in Kentucky months after a fatal shooting in Pickett County, Tennessee.
Jesse Wayne Phillips, 38, was arrested on September 17 by Kentucky State Police troopers in Monticello, Kentucky. He is currently being held at the Pulaski County Detention Center awaiting extradition back to Tennessee.
The case began on May 27, when the TBI launched a homicide investigation at the request of 13th Judicial District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway. Pickett County Sheriff’s deputies responding to a property on Parker Road in Pall Mall discovered 40-year-old Brad Yates dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Investigators identified Phillips, an acquaintance of the victim, as the suspect responsible for the killing. An arrest warrant charging Phillips with second-degree murder was issued on May 27, and he was added to the state’s Most Wanted list the following day.
Authorities remind the public that the charges against Phillips are accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
