Cumberland County is moving forward with plans to demolish and rebuild damaged portions of the county complex that houses the Election Commission, Road Department, and Maintenance Department, according to County Mayor Allen Foster.

Following a recent county commission meeting, Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster clarified that the site will not be completely leveled. Instead, crews will focus on removing unsalvageable sections—primarily older metal-frame structures—while preserving key features like the brick building at the front left of the property.

“Just the parts that are bad will be [demolished],” Foster said. “Most of [the brick building] is going to stay, but a lot of the older metal… it’s more than just the election commission. It’s the Road Department’s buildings over there and for the Maintenance Department as well.”

The repair and reconstruction effort is being handled entirely through insurance, with the insurance provider funding and managing the project to restore the structures to their original layout. Foster estimated the timeline for complete restoration will take roughly 18 to 24 months, with 18 months being the primary expectation.

While final contractor selections remain under the direction of the insurance company, Foster noted that local firm Stubbs Construction—which previously completed the Cumberland County Courthouse remodel—has been involved in preliminary discussions for the work.
