The driver involved in a severe single-vehicle crash late Monday night in Rockwood has been identified as 36-year-old David Micheal Williams. Authorities report that Williams was driving an older-model SUV on North Douglas Avenue near Winchester Street when the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned down an embankment.

Williams sustained serious injuries in the accident and was initially airlifted by LifeStar to UT Medical Center in Knoxville. After a swift discharge from the hospital, he was transferred to the Roane County Jail in Kingston. He was booked on multiple charges, including driving under the influence and child endangerment, and has since posted a $12,500 bond for his release on Tuesday afternoon.

A young juvenile passenger, believed to be a fourth-grade student at Ridgeview Elementary School with the last name Williams, was also transported to a local hospital via ambulance following the crash. An update on the child’s current medical condition has not yet been released.

Rockwood Police officers responded to the scene around 8:00 PM on Monday, later requesting assistance from the Tennessee Highway Patrol due to the severity of the injuries and suspected DUI involvement. Investigators are currently awaiting the official Tennessee Highway Patrol crash report to determine the exact cause of the vehicle leaving the road.
