TWO CROSSVILLE MEN ARRESTED ON DRUG, WEAPON, AND TRAFFIC CHARGES FOLLOWING HIGHWAY 127 STOP
Two local men were taken into custody late Tuesday evening, September 23, 2026, after Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over their vehicle on Highway 127 South for traffic and equipment violations.
According to an incident report filed by Deputy Jason Powers, the traffic stop occurred around 10:13 PM. Deputies observed a red 2006 Nissan Altima traveling north at 66 mph in a 55 mph zone with only one operating taillight and expired registration tags dating back to March 2025.
The driver, identified as Brandon Lee Chumney, 38, of Crossville, initially continued slowly along the right shoulder before pulling to a stop near South Old Mail Road. Authorities discovered Chumney was driving without a valid driver’s license and lacked vehicle insurance or a properly fastened seatbelt.
The front-seat passenger, Raymond Newton Godsey, 28, of Rockwood, was found to have active outstanding warrants for child support and an attachment. During a search of Godsey, deputies recovered black metal knuckles from his left front pocket. Additionally, deputies located a clear plastic bag containing approximately 3.26 grams of a green leafy substance (marijuana) on the rear floorboard, which Godsey admitted belonged to him.

Brandon Lee Chumney: Charged with driving without a license, alongside citations for speeding, light law violations, failure to wear a seatbelt, and financial responsibility violations.

Raymond Newton Godsey: Served with outstanding warrants and charged with simple possession of marijuana and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Both suspects were transported to the Cumberland County intake facility for booking. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Young’s Towing.
