CROSSVILLE POLICE IDENTIFY SUSPECT IN BUC-EE’S THEFT AFTER HE CALLS TO ASK ABOUT A WARRANT

Local police have identified a man accused of stealing over $200 worth of merchandise from the Crossville Buc-ee’s after the suspect reportedly called officers himself to ask if a warrant had been issued.
According to a Crossville Police Department incident report, officers responded to the store on September 26 following a theft report from the store manager. Surveillance footage from September 25 showed a middle-aged man entering the store, walking to the outdoor section, and using a cutting tool to remove two pocket knives and a rechargeable flashlight from their packaging. The suspect allegedly hid the empty packages behind a merchandise display, spent 45 minutes in the restroom, and walked past all points of sale without paying.
Investigators tracked the suspect’s vehicleโ€”a blue 2020 Dodge Ramโ€”using a license plate captured by security cameras. Union County deputies helped trace the vehicle registration to Darrell R. Jones, and officers positively identified Jones using his driver’s license photo, noting a distinctive neck tattoo that matched the surveillance footage.
Later that day, police received a phone call from Jones himself. According to the report, Jones asked if a warrant had been issued for the Buc-ee’s incident, admitted to the theft by stating he “had the money for it” and that it was a “stupid thing he done,” and agreed to turn himself in to authorities.
