INTERSTATE 40 EASTBOUND BLOCKED NEAR MONTEREY FOLLOWING 18-WHEELER CRASH
All eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 remain blocked at Mile Marker 305, just east of Monterey, following a serious crash involving an overturned semi-truck.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office have responded to the scene. Due to the extended blockage, THP has closed I-40 Eastbound and is actively forcing all traffic to exit and reroute onto Highway 70.
Motorists traveling through the area should anticipate significant delays. Drivers taking the Highway 70 detour should also prepare for an active construction zone located approximately three miles east, which features a three-minute traffic light expected to cause major vehicle backups.
Authorities strongly advise motorists to seek alternate travel routes and exercise extreme caution if commuting through the area. Real-time updates are available via the TDOT SmartWay application.
