FAIRFIELD GLADE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS TEAM UP FOR FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
In observance of Fire Prevention Week, running from October 4 through October 10, the Fairfield Glade Police Department is partnering with the Fairfield Glade Fire Department to urge residents to prioritize home safety, with a specific focus on lithium-ion battery care.
Authorities note that as rechargeable devices—such as phones, laptops, e-bikes, and power tools—become increasingly common, safe handling habits are vital. Key safety recommendations include:
-
Using only the manufacturer-designed charger for each device.
-
Immediately discontinuing the use of batteries that are swollen, damaged, unusually hot, or emitting strange odors.
-
Avoiding charging devices under heat-trapping materials like pillows or blankets.
-
Keeping charging electronics away from home exits and primary escape routes.
-
Ensuring all home smoke alarms are operational and tested regularly.
Officials also encourage families to use the week to establish and practice a home fire escape plan, including designated outdoor meeting places. Police and fire officials emphasize that preparation is key to staying safe before an emergency occurs.
