HEAVY RAIN AND GUSTY WINDS THIS WEEKEND BEFORE SUNSHINE RETURNS
A wet and windy Saturday is ahead for the Cumberland Plateau and Tennessee Valley, with widespread showers, occasional thunderstorms and the potential for localized flooding. A Flood Watch and Wind Advisory are in effect for the Cumberland Plateau, while a Wind Advisory is in effect for the Tennessee Valley.
Rain chances are 100 percent across both regions Saturday. Highs will reach the upper 60s on the Cumberland Plateau and lower 70s in the Tennessee Valley. Winds could gust as high as 35 miles per hour, making travel difficult at times, especially during heavier downpours. Rainfall amounts of a half to three-quarters of an inch are expected during the day, with additional rain Saturday night. The Tennessee Valley could receive another three-quarters of an inch to an inch overnight, while the plateau could pick up another half to three-quarters of an inch. Localized flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
Showers continue Sunday, although rain chances gradually decrease as the day goes on. Highs will remain cooler than normal, reaching the middle 60s on the Cumberland Plateau and around 70 in the Tennessee Valley. Conditions improve Sunday night as the rain moves out and skies begin clearing.
A much different weather pattern arrives Monday. Sunshine returns, with highs climbing to the upper 70s on the plateau and lower 80s in the valley. Tuesday and Wednesday look sunny and warm, with afternoon temperatures generally in the lower 80s on the Cumberland Plateau and middle 80s in the Tennessee Valley. Overnight lows will remain in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
