ATHENS SHOOTING VICTIMS AND DECEASED SUSPECT NAMED

Athens Police have announced the name of the victims killed at a local manufacturing plant along with the name of the suspected shooter who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Chief of Police Chuck Ziegler said that the TBI identified angry long-time employee Ricky Swafford as the man who entered the Thomas & Betts Plant shortly after 4 PM Thursday afternoon armed with a semi-automatic handgun. A preliminary investigation has revealed that Swafford became upset in a meeting with his two supervisors, 44-year-old James A. Zotter and 68-year-old Sandra H. Cooley. Swafford is said to have left the building and then returned later with the weapon. He then shot both victims to death. Swafford’s lifeless body was later found in a bathroom on the premises. The main motive of the crime is still to be determined.
