CITY OF ALGOOD MAYOR RESIGNS

The City of Algood is now searching for a new mayor after Mayor Scott Bilbrey suddenly resigned yesterday (Friday, November 3, 2017). Bilbrey chose to resign after he received a petition to appear in chancery court on November 13th. The petition requested a judge to get Bilbrey to attend all city council meetings after Bilbrey missed the September and October city council meetings, leaving the council without a quorum. Bilbrey said he missed the meetings because of health reasons. Bilbrey is currently on medical leave from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, which prevents him from participating in secondary employment. Bilbrey’s resignation leaves the city council with only two members as Councilwoman Jennifer Green and Councilman Richard Heard resigned in the past few months. The council has yet to fill those positions.
