KENTUCKY MAN REPORTEDLY BREAKS INTO VEHICLES, LIGHTS FIRE IN POLICE CAR

A Mount Vernon, Kentucky, man is facing multiple charges after police say he fought with officers and lit a fire in the back seat of squad car after he was caught breaking into vehicles and homes while intoxicated on a synthetic drug. Officers say 37-year-old Richard W. Biggs was arrested off Cane Creek Road south of London. A Laurel County deputy responded to a report of someone breaking into vehicles and walking up on porches. Authorities say Biggs was found near an open vehicle. They say he caused a disturbance and resisted being taken into arrest. Officials say area citizens helped subdue Biggs after he elbowed the deputy twice. Biggs was placed into a squad car, where he allegedly attempted to light the back seat on fire. Biggs was charged with resisting arrest, assault of a police officer, public intoxication, possession of controlled substances, arson and four counts of criminal mischief.
