AIRCRAFT CRASH IN TELLICO PLAINS SAID TO BE POSSIBLE U.S. NAVAL TEST FLIGHT

The military is confirming that a jet crashed late Sunday afternoon in Monroe County near Tellico Plains. According to the county sheriff’s department, the crash occurred in the Cherokee National Forest near the fish hatchery on River Road. A 3-mile cordon has been placed around the crash-site because it is said that the jet was carrying explosives. Officials with the United States Navy say that the aircraft is possibly a T-45 Goshawk from Training Wing One, based out of Meridian, Mississippi that was training in the area and had not reported back to its’ station. The Navy release also said that there were two people onboard, an instructor and trainee. At last report, their status was unknown, but Federal Authorities on the scene are assuming it is fatal. The search was halted Sunday night due to the presence of the explosives. Efforts will be resuming Monday morning.
