ALGOOD MAYOR COMMENTS ON CITY COUNCIL MEETING CRITICISMS

The Mayor of the City of Algood says he has good reasons for missing his second consecutive city council meeting. Mayor Scott Bilbrey has stated publicly that he did not feel like attending the last meeting. Bilbrey said he contacted Vice Mayor Kirk Dyer beforehand and that “Even from our conversation he had to have known that the stress level was high with what was going on and I didn’t feel like what he wanted to do was in the best interest of Algood.” Bilbrey continued, “That coupled with the stress and some upcoming medical surgeries that I was going through, I wasn’t feeling up to being at the meeting.” Concerns have been raised because two seats on the council remain vacant. Bilbrey also said that even though the appointment of a new city attorney was placed on the meeting’s agenda, the job had been properly advertised. He says that the business of the city has not been interrupted. Bilbrey also went on to say that according to the city charter, he can miss six consecutive meetings before being removed from office. The mayor said that that won’t happen “because that’s not doing my job that I was elected to do.” The next Algood meeting is set for November 14th.
