ALLERGY CONCERNS PROMPT END TO SHELTER-DOGS-IN-COURTHOUSE POLICY

In a short-lived county decision, shelter dogs hoping to find families could visit the Hamilton County Courthouse; but due to allergy concerns, pooches are no longer welcome.

Wednesday, Hamilton County commissioners unanimously reversed their decision last week to let shelter dogs from McKamey Animal Center and the Humane Educational Society visit the clerk and master’s office.

County Chief Probate Deputy Anne Fricker proposed the idea and defended it, saying two service dogs were already in the office this week.

But County Commissioner Greg Martin said he believes it’s not in the county’s best interest to have non-service animals there. He went on to say the vote had nothing to do with a dislike of dogs.
