ALLIED CRANE WORKS INTERSTATE WRECK DURING TORNADO WARNING TO KEEP LIGHT POLE FROM FALLING.

A truck and camper roll over accident near the Peavine Road exit of Interstate 40 East yesterday afternoon around 2:30 turned precarious when a 100 foot light pole started teetering as the wreck was being uprighted.  Then to add fuel to the fire, heavy rains, high winds, and a tornado warning was issued while the crew attempted to stabilize the light pole.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 1999 Ford 250 being driven by a Michigan man was traveling east on I-40 while pulling a camper trailer. The driver and witnesses stated a semi-truck passed the truck and camper in the left lane and the wind from the semi caused Vehicle 1 to sway in the roadway. Vehicle 1 exited the roadway to the right side, impacted a highway road sign, jack-knifed, and impacted a utility pole with the rear of the truck and the front of the trailer. Vehicle 1 came to final rest south of the utility pole and I-40.  Traffic was backed up for hours while emergency crews tried to clear the accident.

Here’s how the crew from Allied Crane described the scene in a Facebook post:
