ANDERSON SHERIFF WARNS OF FAKE PHONE COMPANY SCAM

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a public warning about an ongoing phone scam targeting local residents. Scammers are posing as representatives of a fictitious company called “United Phone Company,” contacting people to demand payments for supposed past-due balances, service problems, or to prevent disconnection of phone services.
These fraudulent callers often create a sense of urgency and use threats to pressure victims into acting quickly. Authorities strongly advise residents never to share personal information, banking details, credit card numbers, or payment app information over the phone, and never to send money to unknown individuals.
If you receive such a call, the best response is to hang up immediately without engaging or arguing, then report the incident to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. To avoid falling victim, always verify any claimed issues directly with your legitimate service provider using a trusted phone number from your bill or their official website.
Anyone who suspects they have been targeted or victimized should contact the Sheriff’s Office for assistance.
