ANOTHER CATALYTIC CONVERTER FOUND PERTAINING TO THE WESTEL POLICE CHASE

During the police pursuit last week involving 19-year-old James Schillinger, through the east part of Cumberland County, Rockwood police officers arrested him on multiple charges.

After speeding and evading deputies, the couple in the vehicle turned down a four-wheeler path where their vehicle had gotten stuck in a creek. They then fled on foot where a driver of a silver vehicle with front-end damage tried to pick up James Schillinger but was unsuccessful when they noticed a cop watching them.

Before Mr. Schillinger was found hiding in a shed, multiple agencies were on the hunt for him. A Cumberland County deputy observed a silver Chevrolet Equinox with front-end damage in the area and conducted a traffic stop to see if the suspect was hiding in the vehicle. The driver was identified as 41-year-old Raymond Lawerance Smith.

Mr. Smith had a suspended license and the registration of the vehicle was to James Schillinger (James’ father). Located in the vehicle was a detached catalytic converter which Raymond stated he had bought. However, since he did not have proof of purchase, the converter was seized and Smith was issued a citation. He denied any involvement in the police pursuit.

On Thursday, a deputy went to Gordon Lowe Road to serve a warrant for James Schillinger, after he was released from Rockwood. However, when he noticed the deputy, he took off running.

After finally being able to detain him, James Schillinger was charged with Resisting Arrest, Evading Arrest, and five outstanding warrants for possession of a catalytic converter, Evading Arrest (felony), resisting stop halt frisk, Evading Arrest (misdemeanor), Reckless Endangerment, Driving on Revoked/Suspended, and Failure to Appear.
