ANYWHERE FROM 2 TO OVER 6 INCHES OF SNOW REPORTED ON PLATEAU

Anywhere from 2 to just over a half foot of snow fell on the plateau late last night until daybreak this morning setting up hazardous travel conditions.

Preliminary snow amounts vary from 2 to 4 inches in much of Cumberland County to 6.5 reported near Clarkrange in southern Fentress County.

The wet snow on trees caused many of them to come down on power lines knocking out service to just over 7,000 Volunteer Energy Cooperative customers at one point. Other electric companies in the area reported the same issue.

Law enforcement, including the Tennessee Highway Patrol, worked numerous accidents during the snowfall. One at the 364 mile marker eastbound on I-40 in Loudon County involving multiple automobiles left injuries and the roadway closed for over an hour.

Some melting will take place this afternoon but will be short lived. Temperatures tonight will drop into the lower 20’s creating icy conditions and travel will be hazardous.
