ARIZONA MAN DOES OVER 130 MPH ON I-40 TO CATCH GATLINBURG SUNRISE
On Sunday, Deputy Steven Richardson observed a Ford Mustang driving around 134 MPH on I40 East around mile marker 307. Richardson got behind the vehicle and activated emergency lights and sirens, only able to use his radar on the vehicle one time and even losing sight of the vehicle several times due to the high speeds and curves in the roadway.
The vehicle stopped around mile marker 313, when Deputy Richardson identified the driver as Phani Raavi from Arizona.
Raavi apologized for his speed, but said he was trying to catch the sunrise in Gatlinburg.
Raavi was arrested and transported to the Cumberland County Jail for processing.
The vehicle, which was a rental, was towed by Lantana Motors and inventoried.
