ARMED MAN FATALLY SHOT AFTER RUSHING DEPUTY IN MIDDLE OF I-40 FRIDAY NIGHT

I-40 westbound, near mile marker 311, shutdown due to an officer-involved shooting Friday night, according to officials with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 9 p.m. Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies responded to I-40 westbound regarding a pick-up truck driving the wrong way, according to Susan Niland, spokesperson for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

“Cumberland County deputies responding to the area found the vehicle unoccupied, on the shoulder of the interstate,” said Niland. “Another deputy located the driver standing on the outside lane of the interstate, and told him to show his hands.”

The man presented a handgun and ran towards the deputy, causing the deputy to shoot the suspect, according to Niland.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and no officers were injured Niland said.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol Critical Response Team provided assistance during the incident.

Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are continuing to investigate the incident.
