On July 30, 2025, officers initiated an investigation after 32 headstones were discovered knocked over and damaged at Cookeville City Cemetery located at 241 S Walnut Avenue.

During the course of the investigation, a juvenile suspect was identified. The suspect, who was visiting a parent residing near the cemetery at the time of the incident, was interviewed by detectives and subsequently admitted to damaging the headstones.

A felony vandalism petition was obtained and served on the juvenile who was transported to the juvenile detention facility.
