FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS OWNER WRONGFULLY ACCUSED CROSSVILLE, TENNESSEE: On July 27, 2023 a press release from the Tennessee Department of Revenue detailed the arrest of local small business owner Timothy Wyatt (*Mr. Wyatt”). The press release was subsequently picked up by local media outlets, however, the government’s press release failed to tell the entire story. In 2018, Mr. Wyatt registered a used boat he had purchased with the Cumberland County Clerk’s office. More than four years later in June of 2022, agents from the Department of Revenue arrived at Mr. Wyatt’s home to question him regarding a discrepancy in the purchase price listed on a purchase agreement and the purchase price that was listed on the registration form. Just four days after this meeting, Mr. Wyatt remitted $1,733 to the State of Tennessee which constituted the difference in tax owed on the boat, paying his tax debt in full. This week, the government utilized taxpayer resources to effectuate an arrest of Mr. Wyatt for Crimes Against a Revenue Officer, sending armed agents with bullet proof vests to arrest the fifty-two year old local businessman with no prior criminal record. As a lifelong resident of Crossville, Mr. Wyatt is committed to making his home a better place. Mr. Wyatt and his legal team look forward to being able to tell the story of a local businessman that has been wrongfully accused and restoring his good name in the community he loves.
