ATTORNEYS SEEKING TO MOVE TRIAL OF THOSE INVOLVED IN PILOT/FLYING J CASE

Prosecutors and defense attorneys have asked for a new venue in the federal trial against eight former employees of the Pilot/Flying J truck stop franchise. The request has been made to move the case from being tried in Knoxville where the headquarters of the company is based, to Chattanooga. Those defendants are accused of not following through on giving trucking firms special discounts or premiums. Pilot has paid a $92 million federal penalty and spent $85 million on a class-action settlement with 5,500 trucking companies in connection with a scheme to cheat customers out of promised discounts and rebates. The company is owned by the family of Cleveland Indian’s owner Jimmy Haslam and his brother, Governor Bill Haslam.
