BARBARA KOON ARRESTED FOR DUI AFTER CRASH AND PURSUIT IN CROSSVILLE

A local woman was taken into custody on September 4, 2026, following a traffic stop and brief pursuit that began when she reportedly passed out behind the wheel and crashed into a ditch.
According to Crossville Police Department reports filed by Master Patrolman Shade Foster, city units initially responded around 2:15 PM to South Main Street and Miller Avenue regarding a female driver in a blue Mazda who had lost consciousness, crashed, and then drove away.
At approximately 2:22 PM, Officer Foster spotted the blue Mazda traveling northbound on North Main Street near Genesis Road. The vehicle drifted across the lane divider lines three times before the officer initiated a traffic stop using emergency lights and sirens near North Main and Dooley streets.
The driver, identified as Barbara Michelle Koon, continued driving north at speeds ranging from 33 to 43 mph for about 0.6 miles before finally pulling over at North Main Street and Industrial Boulevard.
  • Physical Observations: Officers noted that Koon had constricted pupils, appeared lethargic, spoke with slurred speech, and was unsteady on her feet.
  • Search and Seizure: After Koon refused Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, she was placed under custody. A search of her purse revealed four hollowed-out pen bodies containing white powder residue consistent with crushed pills.
  • Blood Evidence: Officers obtained a search warrant and transported Koon to Cumberland County Medical Center (CMC), where two vials of whole blood were drawn for testing at approximately 4:12 PM.
Koon was booked into the Cumberland County Justice Center and charged with driving under the influence. Her vehicle was towed, and the recovered drug paraphernalia was destroyed at the police department.
