BEAR SIGHTED IN THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN COOKEVILLE
Following a recent warning from the TWRA about increased bear activity, the Cookeville Police Department reported a bear sighting this morning in the area of 10th Street and Washington Avenue, right in the heart of Cookeville.
Residents in the vicinity are urged to exercise caution and follow basic safety guidelines: avoid approaching or feeding the bear, keep pets leashed and supervised outdoors, secure trash and food sources, give the animal plenty of space and go indoors if spotted, and report any aggressive behavior to 911.
Officials note that such sightings are common as bears move through the area, and they typically leave without incident if left undisturbed.
