BELVIN CHARGED WITH DUI AFTER CRASH ON VANDEVER MONDAY

On Monday around 7 PM, deputies were dispatched to Vandever Road in reference to a wreck with injuries. Upon arrival, deputies identified 43-year-old David Belvin as one of the drivers. Belvin stated that he was heading home when he ran off the roadway and overcorrected the vehicle, crossing the double yellow line, causing him to travel in the wrong lane, and struck the other vehicle.

Deputies noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person. They noted him to have bloodshot, watery eyes, and be unsteady on his feet. When asked if he had anything to drink, Belvin alleged he had drank “3 beers”.

When deputies asked if he would perform a Standard Field Sobriety Test, Belvin stated “just take me to jail”.

David Belvin was arrested for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence and his blood was drawn at the Justice Center to be sent to the crime lab for testing.

The driver of the vehicle Belvin struck on Vandever Road was identified as Randall Brewer and his passenger Tiffany Brewer. While speaking with the couple, they stated they were traveling when they saw a truck traveling towards them at a high rate of speed. The truck ran off of the roadway and then back into the roadway crossing the double yellow line and driving in the wrong lane of travel. Belvin’s truck struck the couple’s driver’s side causing them to spin 360 degrees multiple times for approximately 60 yards before coming to a rest. Belvin’s truck struck a utility pole and came to rest in the ditch line on its side.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. No one was transported for medical treatment.
