A special benefit is planned for an injured Cumberland County deputy sheriff.

On October 7, 2020, Deputy Greg Green fell from a ladder and broke his neck. He was airlifted to U.T. Medical Center where he underwent surgery. As of October 22, 2020, Green is paralyzed from the chest down. His doctor says he has a 30 percent chance of walking again.

Deputy Green originally began his law enforcement career on June 6, 1992 with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department. Through the years he has served with the sheriff’s department and with the Crossville Police Department. Deputy Green is currently assigned to the patrol division and is a SWAT team operator with the sheriff’s office.

“He is dedicated to serving our community and does his job very well,” said Cumberland County Sheriff Casey Cox. “Deputy Green and I have worked most of our career together. It is an honor to work alongside of him, but it is even more of an honor to call Greg a true friend. He loves his community and truly loves his profession. I ask everyone to keep him, his wife and their family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

The benefit for Greg will be held Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Cumberland County Community Complex. Here is a list of events scheduled at this time:

8:30 a.m. central – 5K Run/Walk with SWAT members. Entry fee is $30 per person and includes a t-shirt.

10:30 a.m. – Chili Contest – Judging begins. Chili must be delivered to the community complex by 9:30 a.m.. Entry fee is $50.

11 a.m. – $10 chili or Flying Pig BBQ lunch

1 p.m. – Silent and live auction
