BILL FOR SEAT BELTS ON SCHOOL B– USES REVISED BY COMMITTEE
The Tennessee General Assembly Fiscal Review Committee revised its projection of the fiscal impact of a bill to require seat belts on school buses. The bill’s sponsor Rep. JoAnne Favors (D-Chattanooga) amended the original bill to eliminate the requirement that all buses be retrofitted with seat belts by 2023. Now the bill simply states buses purchased on or after July 2019 must have seat belts. Before being amended, the bill was estimated to cost approximately $82 million/year. The amended version would cost approximately $15 million/year.
