Tennessee Senator Jon Lundberg has proposed an end to the hands-free cellphone driving law. The law, which went into effect July 2019, prohibits the use of hand-held cellphones and devices while driving. Officials say law enforcement had a hard time enforcing it.

State Bill 1751 calling to repeal the law was introduced to the Senate today. Senator Lundberg says the current law is not stopping Tennesseans from driving distracted. Instead it encourages drivers to be more discreet with their phone use, which potentially keeps them distracted.

No word yet on when the state senate will vote on the new bill.
