BILL WOULD BAN SMOKING IN AND NEAR PLAYGROUNDS – ON AN “OPT-IN” BASIS
A bill currently making its way through committees in the state legislature seeks to ban smoking in or near playgrounds.
As written, the bill authorizes Knox County and Knoxville to prohibit smoking at any playground owned by a local government. Other municipalities and counties may ask to join the “opt-in” bill. So far, Carter, Johnson, Sullivan and Washington counties have asked to be included.
