Tazewell police officers arrested a man Sunday for attempting to steal a fire truck.

They found Johnathan Scott Rodriguez at the wheel of an idling Tazewell/New Tazewell Fire Department ladder truck.

When approached by police, Rodriguez claimed to own both the fire department and the truck.

Officers determined Rodriguez was intoxicated and found a stolen fire-department fuel card in his possession.

After confirming with Tazewell/New Tazewell Fire Chief Josh Miracle that Rodriguez did not belong to the department, police took Rodriguez to Claiborne County jail and charged him with attempted theft over $250,000, aggravated burglary and theft under $1,000.
