BLOUNT CO. DEPUTY CLEARED TO RETURN TO WORK AFTER FATAL SHOOTING
A Blount County deputy who shot and killed a Greenback man after the man charged at him with an axe early this week has been cleared to return to his job.
Deputy Jarred Pekala was sent to a home on Emert Williams Road where he encountered 40-year-old Brian Lee Rogers who was acting erratically. When Pekala arrived, Rogers began chasing him with the axe.
Pekala put his patrol car in reverse and backed up just over 300 feet. When he stopped, he warned Rogers to drop the weapon, but Roger continued at him. Pekala fired his gun, striking Rogers multiple times.
Rogers was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
