One person died as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a long standoff took place in Blount County Saturday. The TBI has identified the suspect as 21-year-old Robert L. Fann III. Upon investigating a reported domestic situation at the Manor WayApartments, deputies with the Blount County Sheriff’s Dept. arrested Fann who was in violation of an order of protection. After being placed in a cruiser, officers noted him trying to hide what could have been drugs. Fann was removed from the vehicle and took off on foot back into the apartment. They heard a shot come from the building and soon after, a SWAT team and negotiators were called to the scene. At one point, Fann exchanged gunshots with authorities. He then returned to the apartment where another gunshot was heard. The standoff ended around 4 PM.
