BLOUNT DEPUTIES ARREST GEORGIA MAN IN HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

Blount County, Tennessee – Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said a Maryville woman is dead and a Georgia man is in custody following a shooting that occurred at a home in Rockford Sunday afternoon.
The victim of the shooting, Shelby R. Williams, 34, was pronounced deceased upon arrival at University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Charles Anthony Scott, 48, of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, is charged with reckless homicide and unlawful possession of a firearm. Scott is being held in the Blount County Correctional Facility on bonds totaling $500,000 pending a hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court at 1:30 pm Monday.
Shortly after 2 pm Sunday, deputies responded to a residence on Triple Oak Street in Rockford to the report of a female victim who’d been shot. When deputies arrived, they found Ms. Williams unresponsive. Deputies performed CPR on Ms. Williams until medics with AMR Ambulance Service arrived. She was transported by AMR to U.T. Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.
During the course of the investigation, Sheriff’s investigators determined that Charles Scott was negligent with the use of a firearm.
An autopsy on Ms. Williams is scheduled for today at Knox County Regional Forensic Center.
