BOOTLEGGERS ARSON SUSPECT’S TRIAL POSTPONED TO JANUARY

According to a report by the Crossville Chronicle, Brandon Chance Jones, a 27-year-old Cumberland County man accused of arson at Bootleggers Bar in Crossville on March 2, 2024, had his federal trial in the U.S. District Court for Middle Tennessee, originally scheduled for August 19, 2025, postponed to January 13, 2026, after his defense attorney withdrew a speedy trial motion and requested a delay, which was granted without opposition.

Jones, initially indicted by the Cumberland County Grand Jury, was transferred to federal custody, pausing state court proceedings as local prosecutors await the federal outcome. A pretrial conference is set for January 5, 2026. Meanwhile, on August 5, 2025, Jones faced a new state indictment for possessing a .22 rifle on December 30, 2024, as a convicted felon, stemming from a prior attempted burglary conviction in August 2022.

Additionally, Jones faces state charges including felony arrest involving a vehicle, evading arrest, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, and driving on a revoked license, all continued to September 16, 2025, in state court.
