Law enforcement says a Bradley County School System substitute teacher has been charged with assault and child abuse.

The incident report says John Kern grabbed a Lake Forest Middle School student by the arms and forced him down to his seat on April 12, 2024. Kern allegedly grabbed the student by the straps of his backpack and placed him into a chair while using foul language. It reportedly caused red marks on the arms of the student.

Kern was taken to the Bradley County Jail.
