BRIDGE WORK ON I-40 NEAR CRAB ORCHARD TO CONTINUE UNTIL MID-SUMMER

Tennessee Department of Transportation officials told 105.7 News today work on the bridge at the 328 mile marker near Crab Orchard will continue until mid-summer 2021.

Repairs are being made to these bridges as a result of damage from two collisions at this location. Crews are replacing portions of the bridge deck, parapet rail, and beams in addition to standard bridge rehabilitation activities such as spot deck concrete repairs and roadway resurfacing. These improvements are required to ensure the bridge is safe to traffic.

The current closure of the eastbound slow lane will last for around 30 days. Once completed, the eastbound fast lane will be closed for 10 days. Each westbound lane will also require a 10 day closure. In addition, repairs are required underneath the bridge and the contractor is allowed to close Highway 70 East at the bridge for an entire weekend to complete this work.

Traffic can and will be heavy in this area especially later in the weekdays and weekends. Motorists are encouraged to see alternative routes. If using Highway 70 or Chestnut Hill Road, law enforcement reminds motorist to obey the posted speed limits and drive safely.

The estimated completion date for the entire project is July 31, 2021.
