British runner 40-year-old Jasmine Paris became the first woman to finish one of the most challenging ultramarathons in the world, the Barkley Marathons in Morgan County.

Officials say the course at Frozen Head State Park usually changes every year, covers 100 miles, and involves a 60,000-foot climb and descent. The race also has a time limit of 60 hours to complete.

Paris completed the course on Friday with a time of 59:58:21.

Only 20 people have completed the race within the allotted 60-hour time limit since being extended to 100 miles in 1989.
