BRUSH FIRE IN ROANE COUNTY STARTED WEDNESDAY, NOW CONTAINED

Roane County, TN- Many motorists noticed a fire in the woodline along Highway 70 going up Rockwood Mountain this past weekend. The fire originally started Wednesday afternoon in an area off of Tollgate Road in the Mountain View community and went up into the hillside. On Friday, the Tennessee Forestry officials and Fire Department decided to let the fire burn itself out after fire lines were drawn by Forestry. The fire in the woods did burn the underbrush over to Highway 70 but never crossed. The rain on Saturday night and into Sunday morning helped wet the ground and get the fire under control. No structures were in danger in that area.

According to the Tennessee Division of Forestry website, the fire size was approximately 175 acres. As of this morning, it is 100% contained.
