A local bystander jumped into action Monday morning to rescue a man in his 60s from Watts Bar Lake near the Blue Springs Marina. According to Roane County Director of Emergency Services Tim Sutter, the rescue unfolded quickly, and the man was subsequently airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center via LifeStar suffering from cold-related issues.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene following the incident, with personnel from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the Roane County Sheriff’s Office, and multiple rescue teams arriving to assist. Initial emergency calls to the Sheriff’s Office had mistakenly reported a child in the water before officials clarified the details of the rescue.
