CACTUS FIRE REACHES 85% CONTAINMENT IN BIG SOUTH FORK

The Cactus Fire burning within the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area in Fentress County has reached 85% containment, up significantly from 50% on Saturday, according to the Fentress County Fire Department and National Park Service officials.
The wildfire currently remains stable at 220 acres, with no homes threatened at this time. Firefighters continue their suppression efforts, while all previously announced temporary park closures remain in effect for public and firefighter safety.
Officials emphasize that 85% containment does not mean the fire is completely extinguished. The Fentress County Fire Department is continuing to monitor the situation and urges the community to respect all ongoing park closures and local warnings as crews work toward full containment.
