drug arrest

CAR PULLED OVER ON I-40 WITH A LOT OF DRUGS AND AN ANGRY PITBULL

Yesterday, Deputy Steven Richardson was traveling down Eastbound I-40 when he noticed two vehicles following each other. Once the lead vehicle noticed his presence the vehicle began crossing over the fog line.

Richardson said this happens when drivers are trying to locate him in their side mirrors.

As the deputy was looking for a safe place to conduct a traffic stop, he noticed the second vehicle failing to maintain their lane as well and randomly braking while traveling under the speed limit, causing Deputy Richardson to believe that one or both vehicles were involved in criminal activity.

The deputy called THP officer Danner for his assistance in stopping both vehicles.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop at exit 317, identified the driver as Addison Woody, and noticed a crystal-like substance and white powdery substance scattered throughout the vehicle. This prompted Richardson to immediately contact dispatch and request additional deputies.

Lt. Lester with Crossville City Police arrived shortly.

In the vehicle with Woody was a very aggressive black pit bull that was very aggressive.

After refusing to exit her vehicle, the deputy used OC spray in her open sunroof, but she still refused to get out.

Lt. Lester broke her driver window and sprayed OC inside her vehicle, and this time Woody reacted to it. Deputy Richardson tried to distract the dog while Lester unlocked the vehicle, and was able to pull Woody from the vehicle and arrest her, despite her tucking her arms under her.

The dog was secured by her friend that was in the other vehicle, pulled over by the THP.

EMS responded to the scene and cleared her, and Deputy Leary transport Woody to Cumberland County Jail.

A search of the vehicle by Lt Lester, SGT Powers and Richardson found: 37 grams of meth, 6 grams of cocaine, 2 grams of Heroin/Fentanyl, a woman’s wallet containing $4,298, and a black Samsung cell phone.

The vehicle was inventoried and towed, all evidence was logged, photographed and placed into evidence at the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The second vehicle’s driver said she had just bought the vehicle from Addison, and they were coming back from Cookeville. She was released after receiving a citation from THP.
